Dr. McMillan C. Durugbo, Associate Professor in Quality and Business Excellence at Abu Dhabi School of Management, has published a new research article in the International Journal of Production Research (Taylor & Francis).
Titled “Uncertainties of supply chain transition and integration for Industry 5.0: a review of operations management literature,” the article addresses how organisations are evolving in response to complex societal shifts—ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to the accelerating impact of artificial intelligence.
The study proposes an ’embedded-extended’ logic for managing uncertainty in Industry 5.0 environments. It highlights two key approaches:
- Embedded strategies to manage ongoing variabilities
- Extended measures to handle crisis-related events and vulnerabilities
Dr. Durugbo also introduces a novel theory on the “toss-up effect”—a condition of indecisiveness caused by the abundance of strategic choices and their potential pitfalls in Industry 5.0 supply chains.
