The Master of Science in Quality and Business Excellence (MSQBE) provides skills necessary for today’s dynamic business environment. The MSQBE program provides students with in-depth understanding of international quality frameworks, issues in business excellence, the various quality award frameworks, and their practical applications in the workplace. Graduates will be able to implement practical approaches and techniques of quality and business excellence to address market needs in Abu Dhabi, The United Arab Emirates and abroad.
This program supports the pillars of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision, especially those directed at the promotion of a large empowered private sector, and a sustainable knowledge-based economy. The degree provides the underpinning knowledge to students wishing to follow a career in the fields of quality and business excellence.
The MSQBE program is composed of courses that provide students with specialized knowledge of quality and business excellence. The program consists of ten courses, each three credit hours in value. ADSM offers a non-thesis pathway in addition to the existing thesis pathway. This is designed to give students greater flexibility in how they complete their degree, based on their academic or professional goals. Under this new dual-pathway structure, students may choose one of the following options:

The applied project course focuses on practical problem-solving and real-world organizational impact, while maintaining the academic rigor required at QFEmirates Level 7.
This course provides an opportunity for students to establish or advance their understanding of research through critical exploration of research language, ethics, and approaches. The course will prepare students for research thesis I & II that they will undertake later in the program. The course introduces the language of research, ethical principles and challenges, and the elements of the research process within quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches. Participants will use these theoretical underpinnings to begin to critically review the literature relevant to their field or interests and determine how research findings are useful in informing their understanding of their environment (work, social, local, global).
This course focuses on the principles, methodologies, and tools of quality management needed for business excellence in today's competitive environment. It explores quality management systems (QMS), quality improvement tools, and the relationship between quality management approaches and organizational culture. Students will learn to assess the effectiveness of QMS strategies in enhancing operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall performance using quantitative and qualitative metrics. They also create comprehensive quality improvement plans tailored to specific organizational needs, enabling them to lead successful initiatives and drive sustainable excellence. The course presents various implementations within business cases.
This course provides a comprehensive exploration of principles, methodologies, and tools for fostering excellence in various industries. Students will analyze and evaluate business excellence frameworks, assess the strategic importance of business excellence, and use real-world UAE case studies to illustrate its transformative impact. The course also evaluates the alignment of business excellence principles with organizational goals, culture, and values. The course further examines the impact of business excellence practices on key performance indicators (KPIs) and enables students to develop a comprehensive implementation plan. This approach empowers students to drive positive change and achieve long-term success.
"Digital Excellence" is a course that equips students with the knowledge and skills essentials of digital business. It emphasizes the understanding of digital ecosystem towards implementing transformative digital strategies. The course provides fundamentals of modern digital business environment encompassing digital workspace that optimizes enterprise applications. With emphasis on emerging technologies that include AI, big data, and blockchain, it delves into digital platforms to drive business innovation. Through case studies, students will explore digital innovation, disruption, and the imperative of digital transformation as experienced in various industries. These will provide business insights on organizational business models, digital operations, and common success and challenges. Such knowledge is essential towards business excellence that emphasizes measuring, monitoring, and controlling of business key performance indicators. The course culminates in proposing digital transformation strategies with consideration on project management as well as change management.
Managing operations and supply chain is vital to every type of organization, for it is only through effective and efficient utilization of resources that an organization can be successful in the long term. In today’s fast-paced business world, supply chain and operation managers must appreciate the integration of operations and supply chain on the organization, employees, and customers. Priority focus areas include the linkages between supply chain processes and operations design, business strategy, and globalization. This course aims to develop a critical understanding of operations management and supply chain strategy in organizational performance and competitiveness. It will build knowledge of operations and supply chain management principles and concepts and critically appraise how they can be applied across different organizational functions.
The course "Strategic Management Principles" offers a comprehensive understanding of strategic management concepts, theories, and models. It covers decision-making at various organizational levels, including corporate, business, and operational. Students learn to evaluate strategic decisions and their impact on outcomes, and develop skills to formulate management strategies. By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of strategic management principles and the ability to apply them in diverse contexts, enabling them to drive organizational success and business excellence.
This course is intended for Master level students to create an Individual Consultancy Thesis Proposal (Thesis I) within the Master of Science in Quality and Business Excellence program. This course aims to allow students to integrate and apply knowledge from earlier relevant courses in the program to identify and investigate a specific research problem in an organization in an industry or government sector. Students will be guided by the Course Supervisor in completing the requirements for completion of this course, which serves as an entry requirement to the Individual Consultancy Thesis II (Final).
Students will submit a written proposal comprising two chapters, and a conduct a proposal presentation for the Individual Consultancy Thesis I (Proposal) course. The chapters and presentation should include an introduction, problem statement, research questions / hypotheses, expected contribution/s, literature review, and proposed methodology. See P 322 Thesis Policy for the full set of requirements. After examination of the proposal and presentation by the Graduate Thesis Panel, each student will make all necessary revisions before resubmitting the Proposal for final approval and permission to progress to the Thesis II (Final) course.
The purpose of the Individual Consultancy Thesis II (Final) project is to integrate and apply knowledge from earlier relevant courses within the Master of Science in Quality and Business Excellence (QBE) program. The course will enable the student to investigate the specific research problem as presented in the Individual Consultancy Thesis I (Proposal) course (MBA 8918). The research will be undertaken in the context of an organization in an industry or government sector.
Each student is required to conduct in-depth research on an organizational problem identified in the Thesis 1 (Proposal) course. As such, the student will select and utilize an appropriate research approach, which includes data collection, data analysis that draws on relevant research methods and techniques, interpretation of findings, and discussion of proposed contributions from the study. Students will produce a final unique written thesis, and participate in an oral defense of this work. Each student will work with the allocated supervisor, with whom they will interact and discuss the work throughout the process of completing and defending his/her individual thesis.
This project-based course enables students to apply advanced knowledge and skills from their Master’s program to an independent, applied project in a relevant workplace, industry, or UAE business environment. Students will identify a workplace or sectoral problem/opportunity, conduct structured research using secondary data and contemporary academic literature, and develop a comprehensive project report with actionable recommendations. This project is not at the analytical level of a thesis, but requires students to demonstrate independent research skills, synthesis of knowledge, and application of theory to practice.

It explores customer service principles, best practices, and innovative strategies, focusing on creating memorable experiences that drive customer satisfaction, loyalty, and long-term success. The course also examines the impact of a customer-centric culture, aligning organizational goals with customer needs, and the role of technology in enhancing customer service delivery. The ultimate goal is to create a comprehensive customer service strategy tailored to a specific industry or organization, enabling participants to become leaders in delivering exceptional experiences that drive business growth.
Sustainability is a grand challenge for modern society and this challenge requires organisations to focus on transitions towards energy-efficient processes, sustainable solutions and a circular economy. This course is intended for individuals seeking to make meaningful contributions towards sustainable futures and will provide students with the opportunity to develop a critical understanding of what sustainability means to organisations and society. The course introduces the core concepts, theories and principles (such as the integration, equity, and precautionary principles) of sustainable development to enable learners to envision and evaluate problems and business models for sustainable development. Students will integrate knowledge from the course to develop action plans and policies towards advances sustainability and the circular economy.
An awareness and application of project management principles and techniques is essential for continuous improvement and innovation by real-world organisations. From mega projects that construct highways and airports to small projects that develop websites and courses, projects are of different forms, lifecycles, costs, and scopes with risks, and require time, effort and focus. In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop and advance their understanding of the fundamental concepts, principles and practices applied by project managers in multidisciplinary environments. The course is also designed to equip students with a range of practical tools and techniques to effectively plan, develop, and manage improvement and innovation projects.

This course aims to provide the student with hands-on, real-life experience and skills to foster innovation and entrepreneurship abilities to improve the quality of their organizations. It will further help to improve the organization, planning, and communications skills of cross-functional and multicultural teams to achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
