In July 2024, a group of Masters students from the Abu Dhabi School of Management (ADSM) embarked on a transformative International Learning Experience (ILE) in St. Petersburg, Russia. This immersive program, hosted by ITMO University, provided a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), technology, and business within a dynamic international context. ITMO University: A Hub of AI Excellence
Our journey began at ITMO University, a leading institution in AI and innovation in Russia. During our visit to the National Center for Cognitive Research, we explored the latest trends in AI across Russia and the UAE. The discussions underscored ITMO’s pivotal role in advancing AI education and research, highlighting its top-ranked position in Russia and the significant career achievements of ITMO graduates.
We then went on a guided tour of the Museum of Optics and a city tour that offered a blend of scientific insight and historical exploration. This introduction set the stage for our subsequent visits, providing a comprehensive view of ITMO’s impact on both academia and industry.
Odyssey Consulting: Innovating Business with AI
At Odyssey Consulting Group, we delved into the transformative power of AI in the consulting industry. Odyssey’s expertise in digital transformation was evident as they showcased AI-driven solutions that automate routine tasks, enhance customer service, and create targeted advertising content. This visit emphasized the practical applications of AI in improving business efficiency and client engagement.
Alfa-Bank: Leading the Way in AI-Powered Banking
Our visit to Alfa-Bank, one of Russia’s largest private banks, highlighted the integration of AI in the financial sector. Alfa-Bank leverages AI to provide innovative banking services, including AI-driven customer service bots, predictive analytics for personalized financial advice, and advanced fraud detection systems. These technologies ensure seamless and efficient customer experiences, positioning Alfa-Bank as a leader in the global financial landscape.
Nexign: Transforming Telecom with AI
Nexign’s long-standing expertise in telecom solutions was showcased during our visit. Their comprehensive approach to digital transformation helps companies automate business processes and achieve agility. Nexign’s products, ranging from convergent BSS systems to optimization solutions, demonstrated how AI and digital technologies are vital for maintaining competitive service levels and responding to evolving market demands.
Speech Technology Center: Pioneering Biometrics and AI
The Speech Technology Center provided insights into AI-enabled biometrics, speech recognition, and machine learning. With over 5000 projects worldwide, their expertise spans various sectors, including banking, telecoms, and energy. The center’s advanced biometric solutions, such as the GridID platform, highlighted the role of AI in enhancing security and operational efficiency in diverse applications, from emergency call centers to forensic analysis.
Yandex: Everyday Innovation with AI
Our final visit was to Yandex, Russia’s leading IT company. Yandex’s extensive array of services, powered by advanced AI technologies, aids millions in their daily activities—from searching the internet and navigating cities to ordering food and listening to music. The introduction of YandexGPT, a generative language model, underscored the company’s continuous innovation and experimentation in AI, illustrating its commitment to enhancing user experiences and exploring new technological frontiers.

Throughout our journey, a recurring theme was the transformative power of AI across various industries. Each company we visited showcased unique applications of AI, showing us the enormous potential to revolutionize business processes, enhance customer experiences, and drive innovation.
The ADSM International Learning Experience, led by Dr. Marc Poulin, Acting President of ADSM, not only provided us with invaluable knowledge but also inspired us to explore new horizons in AI and technology.
