The Abu Dhabi School of Management is pleased to announce that Professor Naveed Yasin, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management and Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre at ADSM, has had a new research article accepted for publication in the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research.
The article, titled “Jugaad as a Decolonising Cultural Logic in Entrepreneurship Education: Pluralising Entrepreneurial Learning in the United Arab Emirates,” was co-authored with Dr Ghulam Nabi of Manchester Metropolitan University.
This acceptance represents a significant research achievement for Professor Yasin and further strengthens ADSM’s contribution to internationally recognised scholarship on entrepreneurship education, cultural knowledge and higher education in the UAE.
Advancing UAE-Based Entrepreneurship Research
The study examines Jugaad, a culturally embedded form of resourceful and adaptive problem-solving commonly associated with South Asian communities. Rather than treating Jugaad simply as informal improvisation, the article conceptualises it as a distinctive way of entrepreneurial knowing that can enrich how entrepreneurship is understood and taught.
Drawing on evidence from the UAE, the study compares the experiences and understandings of South Asian immigrant entrepreneurs with those of university students. It explores how culturally grounded entrepreneurial knowledge can be incorporated into higher education while recognising the institutional and pedagogical conditions required for its responsible use.
The findings challenge the assumption that entrepreneurship education should be based primarily on Western models, frameworks and experiences. Instead, the authors argue for a more plural approach that recognises knowledge emerging from the cultural practices of the UAE’s diverse communities.
Strengthening ADSM’s International Research Profile
The article has been accepted by the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour & Research, an internationally recognised journal ranked CABS 3 and ABDC A and indexed in both the Social Sciences Citation Index and Scopus Q1.
Professor Yasin’s achievement reflects ADSM’s growing emphasis on research that combines international scholarly quality with direct relevance to the UAE. It also demonstrates the value of research that treats the UAE not merely as a setting in which established theories are tested, but as a context capable of generating new theoretical and educational insights.
The publication contributes to Professor Yasin’s established programme of research on entrepreneurship education, immigrant entrepreneurship, decolonisation and contextualised entrepreneurial learning. His work continues to enhance ADSM’s visibility within international academic debates while supporting the School’s commitment to developing locally relevant management knowledge.
The article was formally accepted on 10 September 2026 and will be published by Emerald Publishing.
